I know most of you adore your trucks. You wax and polish and wash your truck quite often. Here's my problem: My 2003 F250SD has fine hairline sratches or marks in the clearcoat. Could be from the carwash. I'm not real sure. Looked at a one month old Black Chevy and it had the same scratches. They could even be swirlmarks. I don't know, I just don't like 'em. How can I remove them? Can anyone recommend a product that is easy to use by hand? Can anyone recommend a product that actually works? I know you cleanfreaks can help me. The truck is Sonic Blue Pearl with Silver two tone.
Meguire's #9 Swirl Remover will get rid of those hairline marks. I used to use it on my last truck, which was black. Worked so well you couldn't see any lines, even in the sun. Looked like glass. The compound is so fine that it barely has any action, so you have to apply it by machine. Also works awesome on the clear digital display part of your stereo (or any clear plastic... gauge pods, etc.). For that, you can apply by hand and rub for a minute or two... completely removes the super fine scratches that you get from normal cleaning.
LW555 is exactly correct. Follow your Meguiar's #9 with a good carnuba paste wax (Meguiar's or Mother's).
If you want to go nuts (plan a whole day for this) do Meguiar's #7 first, then 9 and then wax and use a random orbital buffer. You will be amazed at the results. You'll also likely cry when it gets dirty again.
Just take it out in the "strippens" and get it all covered in good old coal dirt. Then you'll never see them small scratches. Just the big ones from the tree branches and rocks.
I have 200 F-350 that is dark blue with light white scratches in the paint . I use to see diffrent colors of wax that some what match your paint color( so when you put on white wax your scratches don't show up even more) has any one seen this. good or bad??
or is there something out there that will cover my scratches with out repainting the whole truck??????????????
I've only seen that on the infomercials and felt very skeptical about it. I think you would do better going the full boat with something like the Meguiar's system.
They have several numbered stages that you can use to work on your paint with. You can start off with a #2 heavy cleaner and basically work your way up from there. It's been a while but I think #7 is a fine polish and #9 the swirl remover. Finish off with pure carnuba (no cleaners in it).

Fine Scratches
Rubbing compound? Stay away from that stuff unless you really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really have to use it. It is very abrasive and not ideal for today's clear coat paint finishes. Use it only as a last resort. Polishing compound -- even there you have to be careful. Just my 2 cents.
