Backup Lights Not Working 97 F350 Auto Trans
So I checked the bulbs and the fuses and they look good. I understand there is a neutral safety switch on the side of the tranny. Anyone have a pic of where it is and what the name of it is with possibly a part number in case it needs to be changed?

if the auto = E4OD, you want to check the transmission range sensor...the reverse lamp switch is integrated into that sensor. Located on drivers side of transmission housing.
on the 96 MY, it is an 8 pin, black colored connector.P/O (pink w/ orange strip is the fused +12V coming into the switch and BK/PK (black with pink stripe) is the switched feed to the bulbs.
may want to check to ensure the bulbss sockets have a good ground before getting into the sensor.

i noticed to that sometimes the linkage that connects to the neutral safety switch comes a little loose. check it out and re adjust it. a good way to see if thats it could be to wiggle the shifter when in reverse and have someone stand behind the truck and see if the lights flicker or come on. or check it at night. good luck!
