Oil leak

Made an unsettling discovery this morning. Found fresh oil spots on the garage floor where the truck is parked. After crawling around under the truck, found a leak from the driver side valve cover area. Going to take it in tomorrow. Hopefully an easy fix. Very frustrating paying $50,000.00 + for a new truck and have to take it in for an oil leak with less than 400 miles on it. Anyone else come across this? I guess this is what warranty is for.

The good news is there have been very few oil leaks reported. The bad news is yours has one. The new engine was designed from the ground up for serviceability...I mean the top down. It is likely a simple issue.

My truck had the engine fan clutch fail at 3500 miles. The entire repair, first 6.7 the shop had worked on, took less than 2 hours. 22000 miles and perfect since then...

Just spoke with a buddy of mine, diesel tech, said they have some issues with the dipstick o-ring at the valve cover. Sounds easy. We'll see, bringing it in this afternoon. They are giving me an F150 to drive. Wish it was the Ecoboost.

Better than a Focus!

Sorry to hear about your oil leak, be sure to stop back once it's fixed to let us know what caused the leak!

Ok. Just heard from my service advisor. He said the oil leak is coming from the oil separator on top of the left valve cover. Part will take 2-3 days to get in. Hopefully Friday or Monday I will have it back.

A friend of mine who works at a Ford dealer told me the same thing. He said something about an oil dipstick tube o-ring. The dealer I took mine to said it was the oil separator. I don't know if there is a message about the separator.

P Bruckne commented in one of his design threads that the dipstick design was a nightmare to route. I am not surprised there are a few o rings leaking.

Moe, how did this get by you...not working hard enough on the Maytags

I may be WAY off base here and remembering something from a different subject... but wasn't there a "new" dipstick design? I could swear I remember someone here getting one as a "trial" or "beta test" from Ford. Did that ever go into production? Am I insane?

Assuming that I am remembering correctly... I wonder if this warranty repair will include one of these new-style dipsticks. If so, I might need to figure out how to get one for myself

Got my truck back today and all is well. The oil separator was the cause. It sits on top of the left side valve cover toward the rear, looks like a plastic reservoir. Once they had the part, it took them about 30 min to install it. They even had it detailed for me when it was done.

Works for me. Actually, I'm glad you posted these pics. I was wondering what it looked like. You can only see the top of it in the truck.

How does the oil stay in this thing when you are running at 800 lb ft of torque...would it not splash over the side...???
