Recomendations for newer Expedition
When I bought my 98 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4 5.4 in 2003 I was told this was the last, best Expy made. It now has 275k miles on it with the original motor and trans and it runs awesome. While I love this truck, nothing lasts forever so I'm looking to sell it and get another newer model (2001-2004). I would love some feedback from owners of any of these years of the pros and cons of their respective models. Thanks in advance for any advice.

A chance to state my opinion. If you really like the Expedition syle you have - I say get another. I have a 2001 with 85,000 miles, bought 2 years ago with 59,000 so they are out there.
Upgrade to newer model, eventually more powereful engine for such a heavy vehicle. I have the 4.6 with 355 gears, however have spent money on plugs and cops, it runs very well, but certainly doesn't jump off the line. I live in flat land country, MD and VA coast line, so it's fine and I don't tow.
Realize 2002 was the last year for your body style. You say you love your truck - but would you consider something smaller like and explorer? Little bit better on gas. Just bringing the issue up as gas, even if it falls back down some, isn't going to be cheaper forever.
So again if you really like what you have - by all means just use ebay, yahooautos and look nationside for a clean rust free expedition right around 80,000 miles.
Take a look:
Ford : Expedition - eBay (item 170612592704 end time Mar-13-11 21:03:02 PDT)
Ford : Excursion - eBay (item 110657058673 end time Mar-14-11 14:00:00 PDT)
I know, last one is an Excursion V10, thought I would get you thinking how about even larger?
Anyway, hope I confirmed that if you like what you have, then you know what to do.
Good luck and best wishes fishing for a new to you vehicle. Do realize that at some point unless you are really handy with a wrench, you are looking at almost 10 years old now, unless you upgrade a lot.

I understand about the price, even the asking price for the Expedition is way high, I mean it might be worth it by the book, but still that's a lot of money either way. On the Excursions, it's almost like folks know it's something unique now and want a lot of money for them - I don't get it, but it seems thats the way it is. Somehow you have to stumble acrosss those couple of vehciles that hit your "sweet" spot for price and miles. Usually just a lot of looking.

If you are considering the 2003 or up, i'd go for at least a 2005 because it has the 3V motor. I own both a 99 and 05. Love them both for different reasons. Don't see myself selling either one...ever. The white 99 will soon be an extra vehicle, one that my son will have for when he decides to take off roading (like I did with my dads spare 86 Blazer when I was in High School).
Bottom line, look for a 05 or 06 with the 3V.

Just be advised that up until the early engine runs of the 5.4L in 2007, you will have the spark plug issue with carbon build up and possible spark plug separation when changing. So, if you consider an Expedition in the 2003-2007 model year range that is coming close to the 100K spark plug change schedule, I'd make a spark plug change a part of the deal. Dealers have been known to charge $1000-1200 to do a plug change to cover labor involved when a spark plug separates.

The plug problem on expys prior to 2005 was different. The plug would blow out of the head because of the threads in the aluminum head failing. Caused by the use of heads with a reduced # of engaged threads in the plug hole. The plug would blow out of the head because of the threads in the aluminum head failing. I believe this problem was corrected with the use of a redesigned head that was introduced to the Expy mid year 2003.
