Said partially tongue in cheek, but modifying driving style IS the one best mpg improvement

I would say it depends on the terrain even more than driving style. Here in PA we have plenty of hills and even if I am easy on the pedal I can only get around 15mpg without a trailer- around 11-12 with 7K trailer.

I don't see how anyone can claim getting 20+ in these trucks unless they are driving on flat grades with little stopping and starting with a light foot and keeping it around 55mph.....

I don't understand all the MPG threads anyway. Anybody expecting to get reasonable gas mileage in a 8,000 pound vehicle has no business pruchasing or owning one in the first place. And this goes double for anybody who purchases a V-10.

I already have one, works great, got it when they first came out, have to keep a close eye on the gauge though.

Haven't you heard, some people like to have cake and eat it too. There is nothing wrong with wanting to mod your truck for better mileage and performance

I shopped kind of specifically for gas mileage when I bought my X. I had a F250 4x4 truck with a 351 motor, I know how a guy feels with bad gas mileage and a long way to go. So when I was shopping for the X I looked for 2wd (lower, lighter, less rotating mass) and a 7.3 diesel and I did get it as some of you know. I get over 20mpg easy, I have seen as high as 24mpg. The every day average is 21, pulling the camper and boat I get 14.5mpg. I love it! It is a great feeling getting great mileage in a truck! I do not miss the sub 10mpg I used to get with the old truck one bit!

There's nothing wrong with spending good money on (*****) enlargment products either.

Looks like he has his cake and is eating it too. Excursions don't get the best mpg compared to cars, however for a 8000 lb vehicle they are very efficient. Not to mention the places you can go, the amount of passengers you can carry and the things you can tow behind it.

I figured out the solution to my MPG problem! I bought a Civic! My monthly diesel bill + oil changes averaged out over the year comes $700 a month. Civic is costing me 300 a month plus gas. Should save 300 a month and get to keep my Excursion and now I can put some mud tires on it!!
