so my buddy drove his truck today, well technically yesterday for me, to town and back and out about 5 gallons of fuel in his truck on his way to town. about 6 miles there and 6 miles back. turned the truck off when he got home, and now no start! pulled code for crankshaft sensor, would this make it not start??
Yes very much so, the CPS(Crankshaft position sensor) is a know common failure, many of us keep a spare in the glovebox, if ur buddy has not already had it performed Ford did a recall on these, which would be free. Do not get one from an autoparts store as they are roughly $20 at the dealer if he has already had the recall. Many of us run the original "Black" CPS but there are tons of threads on CPS' and varieties. What year is his truck and was the tach moving while cranking?
its a 99 i know that. really sure its a late 99. couldnt tell me if the tach was moving while cranking ill know that answer soon. i was positive that was his problem. he bought it used so hes takin it to the ford dealership to get it changed. thanks! btw your truck is bada*s
If it turns out not to be the CPS tell him to check his voltages on his batteries, if its cold there make sure its plugged in. My truck sat for a couple of months after I turned it off one night when it was running fine. It took these guys on here to figure it out for me.
haha well maybe you can help now...they got it running. runnin absolutely horrible missing bad. smokes a little blue. the truck has aftermarket stage 2s i believe. think an injector could have failed? or possibly the plug on the valve cover is off? maybe a pinched wire? hes also had oil sittin his coolant for some time now. the oil cooler blew up a few weeks ago. fixed right away just never got the oil out of the antifreeze i guess?
Any SES light? Codes? Was it raining? The UVCH plug is a definite possibility but the dying which had us thinking CPS, seems more like a fuel pump? Is the bowl filling pretty quickly? Has he done the intank mods? The screens are known to clog?
says the ses light is on. hasnt rained in quite a few days, althought he did add some coolant. id have to take the lid of the bowl and look. has a cold air intake setup on the truck
