hello everybody... I have a 87f150 with a 302v8, I have replaced several parts and still seem to have the issue of my motor shutting off like someone turned the key off. Then its hard to start (if it starts) sometimes it has to sit for about an hour before it will restart..Any thoughts? Parts I have replaced: Ignition coil, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, also the tach will go to 500 or 1000 rpm when cranking.. Thanks in advance..

Are you leaking gas around your injectors? or at the rail? I would check for spark too. you have bad plugs and your flooding the motor out thats why you have to wait before it will start again
well the spark plugs seem to be in good condition, however at what they call the fuel tank selector (I have the dual tanks) appears to be leaking at the bottom... could this be the cause, after all one of my tanks the fuel pump doesnt work...
I can only see it as a problem if you are leaking alot of fuel from there or its switched over to the tank that has a broken pump. Did you check all the plugs? You could have a bad wire.
its not leaking much, however today when i had it running i took the distributor and pickup on it lightly and it shut off, i restarted the truck but couldn't get it to do it again...im thinking maybe thats where my problem is?
I had the same issue before. Locate your fuel pump relay. it should be diresctly behind your in take box. An should say EFI or some ratheron it. My relay was green an it. After locating it pop the cover off. turn your key to on you should hear your fuel pump turn on an build some pressure. Now before you start make sure you have a helping hand. there will be a magnet that should engage on the relay when turning it over or while running.Either you or someone else watch the relay to se if it actuates. if it does neither when you atempt to start it hold that magnet down touch the relay an have someone try an start your pickup if it start its the relay. Ford relays went out alot when they first started putting EFI in there pickups. I had this issue an still do with my pickup i checked my lines pumps everything an everything seemed to be great but once it would start it'd die in a few seconds or id be driving it an it'd die. Also check the wires that feed into the relay plug its self. Mine had a short in them right there for some reason. wigle them around a little an try it a few more times if it still wont start. That relay is should be 15$ at napa let me no how it goes
well after looking at the relay, i went ahead and bought a new one from napa, it ran for longer this time, about 30min before the idle would die then the motor would rev back up and run for about 5 more minutes before doing the idle drop again, however i did drive it today about 3 miles and it didn't stall or hesitate on me...
update: i took the egr valve off and found a really bad build up of deposit on it and in the hose :|
