I know my glow plugs need replaced. On cooler days I have to cycle the glow plugs two or three times to get it to start. If I plug the heater in it starts right up.
Well yesterday I went to start it cold and it didnt start so when I let off on the key it kept turning over. I jumped out and disconected the batts.
After all that I pulled the batts out, put them on the charger and plugged the heater in. I know in a few hours it will start but, will my starter still be engaged on the fly wheel and if it does start will it stay engaged? I really dont want the teeth on the fly wheel stripped off.
I had the same problem just last week. had to go out and buy a new solenoid and it kept sticking only way i could get it to stop was knocking it around with my mag lite. the older they the better they are, don't stick.
Did you hook up the starter correctly? I had all kinds of problems with my starter and it turned out that I just made a boneheaded mistake by hooking it up wrong.
Here is a elcheapo multimeter: Craftsman Multimeter, Digital, with 8 Functions and 18 Ranges -
Don't let the looks intimidate you. Digital is the way to go. All you really need is to read voltage and check for continuity/Ohms. This will come in use around the house monthly for the rest of your life, I am sure. Well worth the investment! imo
