UltraGuage on 2001 F250 Lariat

I just picked up a 2001 F250 Lariat V10 and am wondering if it's compatible with OBD-II so I can use an UltraGuage on it. I've been looking around the forum here and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Can anyone tell me for sure?

Yes. OBD-II can refer to two different things.

OBD-II "compliant emissions" - which yours may or may not.

OBD-II "communications" - which everything from 1996 on (and 1994-1995 Thunderbird/Cougar) has. This refers to the connection you use to talk to the computer.

I installed my ultra gauge tonight and have a couple questions. First of which being, how accurate overall would you say they are? I set mine up in the initial set up with a 29 gallon fuel tank and a 6.8 liter engine. I don't really think these are terribly important because fuel usage is measured using the MAF sensor, correct? Also, when I took it out for a test run the UG indicated that my RPMs were at 1605 and according to the gauge on my dash it was closer to 1800. And I put the Engine Load % gauge on there just to mess around and driving at 55 MPH it was measuring engine load somewhere between 60 and 70 percent. Is that right? I was thinking it was a bit high. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Add the 94-95 V6 Mustang to that list.

No. You'd have to ask the manufacturer what they're using for the calculations. Probably some combination of the fuel level gauge input, the injector pulse widths, accumulated mileage (VSS input x elapsed time), etc.

As for the rest of it, just drive it a while and see what's typical for your particular truck.

I'll do some hand calculations and see how close the average MPG is. I'd imagine if that's somewhat accurate the instant MPG would be accurate too. I did notice that my engine temp gets right to 186.8 on the guage and the thermostat must open to cool it down because it'll drop at that point. Must be a 185 degree stat. Some aspects of the Ultra Gauge must be fairly accurate or they wouldn't sell too many, right...?

It is a 185° tstat but yours is getting weak mine was doing the same thing new tstat runs at 190° if you put a parts store 192° or 195° in there it will run at 200° empty too hot in my opinion. I have the part # for the right motorcraft 185° tstat if you want it let me know. The gauge is getting the temps straight from the computer so your seeing what the truck is seeing at the sensor it's not going to get anymore accurate than that.

Thanks for the tip Mike. I'll take that part number for the tstat. Might as well swap it out if it's getting to that point.

It's motorcraft ft-1195. If you don't know when the last time time coolant has been change now is the time to do it. Rember to use distilled water to dilute the coolant after a flush and do at least the last few flushes with distilled also since you can't get it all out.
