coolant filter with 80k

I have an 2006 6.0 with 80k on it and runs like a champ. I've been reading a lot about coolant filters, I know this is something I should have done 80k ago, but is it worth doing now or the damage is already done.

Also, I know theres a BIG EGR thread on here. Whats the latest thoughts on EGR. Keep as is, Delete, or unplug. Mine is as is. Thoughts from 2006 6.0 guys.
Thanks

As far as the EGR delete/bypass etc, do a quick search and be prepared for a long read. Lots of varying opinions. Regarding the coolant filter, absolutely do it. While I think that all oil coolers will eventually get clogged, a coolant filter should significantly increase the time you get before this occurs. How much - I can't quantify that, however, many that are running coolant filters go several hundred thousand miles with no issues. I put mine on at 56,000 miles and changed the first filter after 500 miles and found a little debris. Next one was at 1000 miles and was clean. Last one was at 10,000 miles and I found about 1/4 tsp of sand in it. I'm glad that didn't get into my oil cooler! Since having my coolant filter on, my delta between EOT and ECT have not changed. In my mind that is attributable to the coolant filter, along with VC-9 coolant flush. Best thing to do is get some gauges (edge insight is great) to monitor your temperatures. Anything above 15 degree difference, once fully warmed up, unloaded on flat ground, means you have trouble.
