With all the talk of switching wheels from stock 17 or 18 inch to after market 20 inch wheels and tires, will that confuse the vehicles computer for mileage or other things. In other words can you cause damage to the truck by increasing the wheel size?
It all depends on the outside tire diameter and what you do with the truck.
Under most circumstances larger tires alone without regearing will lead to shorter transmission life because the transmission will find itself shifting in and out of O/D due to the shorter effective gear ratio.
But these trucks have both a TON of low end torque and the ability to lock out gears to limit this. So unless you get ridiculous with tire size I don't see it causing much of an issue.
Thanks for your reply, I'm just trying to figure out if I want to buy a 350 with 17 or 18 inch wheels and then upgrade with 20 inch wheels and slightly wider all terrain tires. From reading previous threads, it looks like you can save $1,300 to $1,800 on the initial purchase price that can go towards the upgrades. My feeling is I would not get that much return by selling the brand new 20 inch wheels and tires.
If you are just going to a 35" tall tire just stick with the factory 20"s the 275/65/20 tire is a little over 34 inches tall. I swapped out my 35's for the factory rims for a lot better ride and some gain in milage.

Reason: wrong info
Thanks for everybody's replies and just to clarify, it looks like it is just better to stick with stock tires. This leads me to the question of are their many after market wheels that would be able to accommodate the stock tires? If anybody has done just that, I would love to see their pictures, especially on the 20 inch tires. Thanks again.
