Engine Identification

Recently me and my dad bought a 1961 Ford 1-ton with what was suppose to be a 390 engine out of a 1976 Ford pickup. I trying ti find out if this engine is in fact a 390. The only casting numbers I can find on the block are on the front which say 18 and then 352 and then on the side of the cylinders inside the lifter valley which say 352 and then 35.

Is this a 390 or a 352? I bought a water pump for a 390 and it bolts right up so im pretty confused. Are the 390 and 352 parts interchangeable?

You need to measue the stroke. Pull a plug and use a dowel or rod measure stroke. 3.50 inches is either a 352 or 360 depending on bore. A 390 will have a 3.78 stroke. Blocks for 352 and 390 are the same.

what he said. And just about everything aside from the rotating assembly is interchangeable with a few exceptions on the FE's. (excludes 427) It doesnt matter if you ask for a water pump for a 428 or a 352 it'll be the same part. Why not check out the FE engine forum for some more info on your new FE.
