I was internet surfing, and came upon this article which might help out those of us that are building up FE's for power and Mileage, it has a lot of really good info!
Thanks for the post. I'm new to this stuff and ANY knowledge I can get is very welcome. I just put my FE back in this weekend after much needed cleaning and some overhaul. I hope to test fire it next weekend.
That is awesome! I rebuilt mine back in November, over a span of 3 weeks, used All of the best parts, and took my times to research and do it right... The Steve Crist book on FE rebuilds is the best. It was very well layed out, and very detailed. I have rebuilt Several Engines in the past, as I worked on a drag boat race team. but all of those engines were GM. My FE rated at 347 hp at the crank, on the Dyno after the rebuild, a big step up from the 146hp before rebuild. My son complains about how touchy the Throttle is... My response is "well it ain't no Focus" I hope your's turns out well. It is great to see all of the great trucks on this site, The Passion for the old reliable is growing, and I am gad to see it. Good luck on your start up!!!
Thanks a lot. I had never done anything more than change the oil which is pretty bad for a 47 year old guy, huh? But my dad can fix anything and we've been working on it together. He's 76 and spending time with him has been more fun than the progress on the truck.
We're not doing a whole lot of upgrades yet. We did put a mild cam in though. This is supposedly gonna be my daughter's truck (yeah, right) so I can't do anything wild with it yet. But one day...
That is great... Enjoy that time with your dad, I Lost my dad last April, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him.. He was 87 and still my hero and I am 50! I am glad to hear that you have that to share with your dad. If you are fairly new to this then, definitely the Steve Crist book will become your new BIBLE lol! Just have fun with it, that is why we do these kind of things... for fun and for glory! Did I say Glory I meant relaxation.
