I am trying to help find the carburetor dashpot for a friend. He said he's gone the automotive supply places and had no luck. I've looked in various catalogues and can't see it either. When I searched this site it came up with lots of chat about them but I only saw one or two places to buy. How about one from a newer truck?
Anyone with ideas where to buy or an alternate part?
Thanks for the help, this site has been extremely helpful to me so far.
I guess that would be helpful wouldn't it. I must've had a brain fart.
It's a 1980 F-150, 351M, Auto. I keep suggesting he find a way to use an alternate one but he seems determined to be original.
Thanks
I think the newest dashpot would be on an '86 300ci with the feedback carb, but I don't know if it's compatible with an '80 carb. I think my '83 300ci 1bbl carb had one, so he might be able to find one of those.
Many carbs come without one, couldn't he just drill a small hole in one of the butterflies to prevent the carb from starving when the throttle closes quickly?
That's what the throttle stop screw is for, but the dashpot lets it close fully when the key is off to prevent run-on. Drilling a hole would be just like permanently setting the screw to hold it open, and would still allow run-on.
