7,000 lb. Trailer Axles
At almost $500.00 each with brakes, it might be cheaper to try and find a used trailer.
A shop I have done business with builds allot of custom trailers.
Most of the time if he needs a basic trailer, he just orders it, because after the cost of materials and man hours he can't compete with assembly line products.
I made a telescoping tongue for the trailer that would move in or out about an inch or maybe more, can't remember exactly. I made an adjuster for it anyways.
I installed a master cylinder on the solid part of the tongue with a rod from the telescoping part of the tongue, to the master cylinder push rod.
I had 1 brake line going to each axle. And on the axle it's self, had a T to split for each wheel.
Super simple how it worked, when the towing vehicle would brake, the trailers own weight wants to keep it going, so it pushed the tongue in, pushing on the master cylinder, applying brake pressure to the wheels.
When the tow vehicle would take off from a stop, the trailer would want to stay parked as the brakes are still applied, so when the vehicle takes off, the tongue comes back out, and brake release.
I've never had a better trailer brake setup than that one I made my self!
I still have that trailer today, I enclosed it about 10 years ago and been using as it storage since. Hasn't moved in over 5 years.
Use to haul cars, trucks and tractors and all sorts of stuff on it! Never failed me!
