So my truck was running pretty good but I'm still working out the bugs from my engine swap. It sat the last month, due to some snow storms and such here in PA. Well when I fired it up again it ran great a few minutes then started sputtering and barely idiling. It also started blowing some black smoke and would only stay running while into the throttle. I popped the hood and gas was blowing out the carb. I mean really coming out. So I quickly shut it down and pulled the air cleaner and looks like fuel was everywhere. It's a holley 4-bbl. I'm thinking that the float needle is stuck. Anyone agree? I'm also thinking some ice and snow melted and made it's way down into the carb. Hopefully didnt cause any worse damage. Another question I have is a strange sound. I put in a 302 HO, bolted it up to a c-6. So I got a flexplate out of an 82 e-250 as some users on here guided me to use. So it seems that there's a faint chirping noise occasionally coming from that area. It gets louder, almost like a belt squeal when I put it in reverse, and almost goes away when I put it in drive and give it gas. Definately sounds like metal to metal contact. I checked all the torque converter studs, they are tight, I know I torqued the flexplate to the motor to proper specs. The only thing I had to do was use the sheet metal plate that goes between the motor and tranny from my old 351 because the 302s was damaged. Could this plate be slighty different, causing it to rub the flexplate??? Anyone ever heard of anything like this before? I don't want to pull the engine again, and if anything I'll wait till spring and pull the tranny if need be. It doesnt seem to be affecting driveability. I don't have any pcv valve just yet, (still have to rig that up, because this was formerly an efi motor, with no pcv on the valve cover) and I once heard a story about a motor sucking air through the rear main seal and causing a strange noise.
