I would agree with that as well. I have a small enclosed V-nosed trailer, somewhere between 4-5k. So not really heavy and it still drops to 10-11 in the city. I dont really get it.

yea, its crazy sometimes, doesnt matter if its my lawn mower or 4 wheeler on a trailer or the tractor and bushhog, or the offshore boat that weights 10,000+, i get about 11-12. Kinda reminds me of the time as a kid me and dad pulled some horses from Lake Charles to Shreveport with a mid 80's chevy crew cab one ton srw w/350, going up hill with a load of horses we got 9.9 mpg, coming back with empty trailer we got 9.7.( i only remember this story because of the mileage and how my dad talked about it how it didnt matter empty or loaded his milage sucked).

Not sure how this compares, but I filled up the truck and 2 - 5 gal cans in Chetwynd and drove to Surrey. I added the 2 gerry cans at Cache creek at the 1/4 tank level and had 1/4 tank left when I got home to South Surrey.
I usually go from Surrey to Prince George on 3/4 of a tank.

I have a 137 litre tank and get about 21 to 22 miles per Imp Gal. For the US freinds that 5 us qts for 1 imperial gallon.
Sometimes the calculations are neary mind boggling with all the possible conversions.

Yes, imperial gallons. the way i figured it out,and i believe the most accurate, is to stop filling your tank at the moment the nozzle auto shuts off. Then do the same thing at the next fill up. You can`t try cram your tank full when you do a accurate mileage check because you will never know how much you have used. Roy

I would not think it would be at the same level every time on first click. Every pump is different, and the way diesel foams, other variables such as temperature and pump speed, will click it off at different levels. I think that there could be as much as a 2-3 gallon variance at first click. When I top off to caculate MPG, I'll spend 5-10 minutes getting it to the top of filler neck level, and that's usually about 5 or so gallons after the first click. It's a pain in the ***, but that's the only way I know I am being as accurate as possible.

I fill my 7.3 Ex at the exact same pump at an East Coast gas station every 3 weeks and stop on the first auto-click. I have to stop and start every $50 (swiping the card 3 times), but it always has the cheapest diesel because it's a truck stop.

You guys sound like fuel prices are much higher throughout the country. I filled up for $3.65 yesterday and I was pissing and moaning. The two tanks before that I paid $3.15 and $3.30. All three weeks apart.

I do 90% highway driving from 60-75 mph. Every weekend I drive the same route 90 miles there, 90 miles back no stops. I use the CC as much as possible. In the winter I get ~16.5 with an egg under my foot. In the summer I get ~17.0-18.5 but with a few more stoplights. Best tank ever was 19.8 on a 3 hour drive in 100 degree weather with the a/c off, front windows and rear vents open, not going over 60, egg under the foot.

My vehicle is a 2000 7.3 Ex with 270,700 miles on it, original everything with 3.73 gears but with 285/75-16 BFG KOs (mileage readings taken with these). To give you an idea how easy I am on it, the BFGs have 12,000 miles on them and the **** are still on and relatively whole.

As for my LIE-O-METER, mine is dead nuts on after I calculate the difference in tire size from stock. It's always within .3 or .4 mpg. The important thing is that you leave it on and don't reset it often. I reset mine at every fillup and it gives me an accurate average for the tank. The more you reset it the further off it is. And if you don't reset it between tanks it's not really accurate because it averages in the last tank. And yes, I also calculate my speeds from what is on the speedo to how fast I'm really going. All numbers I've posted are correct.

KJNDIVER, what is this 80e you speak of?
