I have had my 92 f150 for a few years now and unfortunately it started spitting oil out the dipstick and a few other places. But i think its time to retire the old 300 4.9 but i have a project truck now. I want to make the truck into basically a drag truck but just for street. The truck wont be driven all the time just on nice days just to show off. So far i know im going to run a set of et drags and trac bars and i want to keep the 5 speed and redo the gearing my thing is im not sure what motor would be best for this type of app. I want to put either a 302 or 351 carbed in it but im not sure which one or what mods to do to make it go fast casue I want to make as much power I can. I want to keep the truck naturally aspirated i just want a bad a** street truck. Any help to help make a decision on motor and mods would be great. THANK YOU
Check your state & local laws in regards to engine changes that are "allowed" to keep it legal. You may also want to check into Classic/Antique/Speciality tags & requirements for your state.
Having said that...If it's 2WD I'd go w/ the 5.8L & poss turbo or supercharger. Trucks on Spike TV did similar w/ a lightning last yr. Don't think I'd go w/ a carb though, too inefficient. Think you can do more w/ EFI mods & proper tuning. Just look @ the 5.0/5.8 L Mustangs. My $0.02

Reason: forgot my thought
The truck is a 2wd but i dont want to run any sort of power adder i want to run all motor. I will try to keep it legalbut i wasnt sure about running efi or carbed. Im not looking for the truck to get 20 mpg or anything its basically just a street driven pro street truck. Go fast and sound good i know i want a lopey cam though lol.
It's relatively light so get a 302, upgrade the heads and cam, put a full exhaust on it and stuff the axle with 4.56 gears. If you're wondering just how that combo will run ask Lew52.
ya see i was thinking 302 also cause i thought about using the 5.0 badge in place of the f150 badge just for grins.lol but would 4.56 be a little steep or no i thought about running 4.10s but im not quite sure thats why im trying to do research and get some views from other ppl
