oil question

Today I went by my local parts place and got a filter and some oil. I told him I wanted Rotella Synthetic and a motorcraft filter. He got me the oil and filter. I got home and I changed it and everything. As I did the paperwork I noticed it was 5-40 instead of 15 40 oil. I looked in the manual and it doesnt even have a temp range for 5-40. Is this bad? It is getting to be hot weather here in a month or two and I dont want to have the wrong oil in it.

Is the Rotella 5-40 ok to run in the 6.0 without killing it or hurting it?

rotella 5-40 cj oil is a great oil. youll have no issues at all. if anything you may suffer from an engine that starts faster and runs quiter.

well i didnt see the oil weight in the range on the manual at all and it had me worried. Its going to get pretty hot around here and I do not want to kill the motor because the weight on the oil was wrong. I wanted to go synthetic and I wanted rotella so he told me that weight was my only option. I hope its ok.

Synthetic is 5W40, you got what you asked for. Dino is 15W40. The T-6 Rotella is great oil. My advice, not flaming, make sure you know what you're asking for.

so let me get this right......there is no such thing as 15-40 rotella synthetic....correct? If you want a 15 40 synthetic from rotella you get a 5 40 synthetic correct?

thats what hes saying. I cant confirm that as i run dino 15-40 motorcraft. Mostly becasue I can change my oil every 3k and it still cost me less

You are correct. The 5W40 is a great all around oil that covers a much broader range than the 15W40.

Once again, everyone forgot:

Ford Motor Company has approved and back spec'd 5w-40 for use in ALL POWERSTROKE DIESEL ENGINES.

Ford Motor Company now sells Motorcraft 5w-40 synthetic diesel oil.

If you Google Motorcraft Parts or Motorcraft Oil, you will find 5w-40 along with its suggested temperature range:

-20F to 100F+ (that's 100F or more)

No guessing, no internet expert or amateur opinions. It's OK because Ford says so.

You wo9n't find this in your owner's manual because it happened after it was printed in 2005.
