I am trying to install some rear speakers in my Bronco and I can not figure out how to get the rear side interior panels off. I took out 3 scres near the doors, and I found one little plastic rivet, but the arm rest seems to be in the way and I can't figure out how to remove it. I just have the cheapo cardboard panels. Any help would be much appreciated.
There are screws along the top..they go from door to the tailgate.there covered by the trim piece along the window
near the tailgate just in front ot the pockets... under the carpet is a tab w. a screw.
In order to totally remove the panels...u need to have a torx bit to remove the seat belts.
If u don't want the speakers in the factory location....
I put 2 6x9's above the rear window.
I cut into the roof just enough for the magnet to go into.
then I made wood rings thick enough so the speakers would fit.covered them in matching tweed....and screwed the speakers to the rings
What about the arm rests? They seem like they will be in the way too. I can see two bolts inside them but they are dang near impossible to get to and I'm not sure what size they are.
The cardboard panels don't have the tabs under the carpet - just phillips screws. And I don't think the seat belts prevent them from being removed, but the armrest screws are either 5/16", 3/8", or 10mm and you have to use a 1/4" drive socket to get them.
If you're interested, I have a pair of tan plastic bedwall panels... PM or e-mail me if you're interested.
i wish i had the origonal panels in mine the owner before my took them out and all i got is some lame paneling he painted black .when i went to get the bucket seat out of a rolled 86 he had the origonals in it and had speakers cut out in various places looked way cool but he would not sell it
Finally got them off. The armrests were a pain in the butt! I just did some surgery with a razor knife and cut the bottom of the rubber part away so the bolts were a little more accesible. My Sony Xplod 6x9's went right into the factory mounting bracket, just had to drill new holes in the bracket. They were deeper than my factory ones but with the indention they fit with room to spare behind my factory grills.

That is wierd... how on earth did you do that?! Are we talking about a bronco? cause isnt your top Fiberglass?!
I am really really confused. But dont flater yourself... it doesnt take much to confuse me!
