What is everyone using for front and rear axle lube?
Thoughts on trans flushes or just do a pan drop?
Seems my fan clutch engages in cold weather for the first mile i drive or so then quits. I can tell because it is so noisy, lots of fan noise. Shouldnt that only be engaging in hot weather? Summer?
I use regular rear end lube. The rear on mine is limited slip so I add the Ford friction modifier which is important.
Drop the pan and also drain the torque converter which has a drain plug. You will need approx. 14 qts and lots of cardboard for your ATF shower when you drop the pan.
I have a relatively new severe duty fan clutch and it behaves exactly like yours. Don't worry about it.
Fan clutch is thermally reactive. It engages in varying degrees depending upon the temperature the clutch itself reaches during engine operation. Better for it to engage more often and keep everything cooler than not engage and overheat.
When you change trans fluid, be sure to remove the magnet and clean it and the pan before buttoning it all back up.
b4hntn said all there is to say about the differential lube.
