90 ford ranger questions

What 6 cylinder engine did they put in them? I am looking at purchasing one but want to do some research a head of time.

A 2.9L V-6.
4.0L

2.9L or a 4.0L

I have a 1990 with the 2.9 but I am swapping it out for a 4.0 from another 1990. If you come across a Ranger with a 2.9, pass on it and find one with a 4.0. The 2.9 has a tendency to crack the heads if it overheats and as the cam bearings wear it will lose oil pressure so much the lifters bleed down causing noisy rocker tick plus the 4.0 has 20 more horses than the 2.9.
