to spool or not to spool

ok so im a cheap *** college student who some how bought himself a big gas eating truck. i was wondering if it were possible to install a spool in the front end of my truck? in the ttb dana 44 and if so would a normal mini spool for a dana 44 with the same spline work or would i have to find a specialty spool out there some were? is this just a retarded idea? any thoughts and suggestions would be helpful. i was thinking of a locker but i dont wana burn money on a good one and know that id probably end up breaking a cheap locker and started to wonder if a spool would work in the front end since with manual hubs it would be disengaged unless i was in 4by again all thoughts and ideas are helpful

spools are ok, if you use it right. when not in a severe mud hole you can use 1 lockout and get around fine. if you are where you realy need both front wheels pulling you can lock the other hub. spools were not designed to be used in the front, or for that matter, on the street. if you use it in a place that is not real slick you stand a good chance of breaking an axel and causing all kinds of problems. had a truck come in that broke an axel the other day, axel broke at the u joint and got hung in the radius arm/axel beam. i think he said it rolled about 3 times down a hill and into a creek. your truck will also " push " real bad with a spool when you turn if you have both hubs locked.
