Anyway that is all a guess based on a Google search so take it for what it's worth.
Thanks, I will start looking for a CA Cat! I can see the cash go now! LOL I bet the guy who invented the cat is the richest guy on earth, well at least in CA. LOL

Well, I guess I need to move! I can't find a Cat for CA anywhere on the net. This is ridiculous. You would think there would be somewhere that sold them online, for CA. I can find them as low as 400 bucks, but can't buy them because they are not CA and some places won't even ship one to CA.

So who in CA can tell me where to find a cat at a decent price? Do I have to go to the dealer? I guess I will call one just to price one.

Update, just got off the phone with a Ford Dealer. The cat for this truck for CA is over 2000 bucks! OH MY GOD! Really, why so expensive when you can find other cats for 400 - 600.

I'm going to talk to my smog guy and ask him if they can even tell if it is a CA cat or not. If they can't I may end up getting a friend that lives in Arizona to get me a cat. 2000 bucks it a bit high for a piece of tin with some junk inside of it! Dang CA anyway!

Sorry to keep replying to myself, but I wanted to let you all know what the smog guy said.

He said to start saving my money. I have 2 years to buy a new cat. He told me that this cat will not harm my truck, but will make my light stay on. I asked him about how good they (he) checks for CA certified cat. He said that he really has no way of knowing, but CHP does. He said that if CHP caught me driving the truck with a non CA cat on it, I could get fined, get the truck taken away, or get it an automatic fail of smog on it.

Because of all this he recommended that I just drive the truck like nothing and start saving for the right cat for CA. He said that even if we messed with the EGR valve and stuff, it would not help the light being on. It comes down to the cat.

So that is where I am at this point. I don't have over 2000 bucks for a cat right now, unless I charge it to a credit card, but I really don't want to do that right now either. I'm already in debt up to my ears!! So I am just going to ignore that little light and keep on keeping on.

So once again, living in CA sucks! LOL

You are about the 4th Californian on this site that I've said this to:

Move up here to Oregon.

We don't care about no smog laws unless you live in the Portland or Medford areas.

I called several cat manufactures and they all said the same thing. They have cats for CA but can't sell them until they get their CARB approval. One guy said they been waiting 2 years!

At this point I would hit the junk yards and see if you can find one.

EDIT: Forget the junkyard. They legally cannot sell you a used cat. At this point the only option you have in CA to be legal is to buy one from the dealer. No one else has them for legal sale in CA.

Yah, that is what I figured out. Only way I can get one cheaper, legally is to get one off of a truck that is getting scrapped at out tow yard. We would not be buying and not stealing it. The only thing is, they don't tow them in to often. I have 2 years though! LOL

I'm going to just set a special fund up at my bank for saving so much a month for a cat. As long as it doesn't hurt the truck to run the one that is on it, I'm not going to be in a big hurry. I should have enough saved by the time I need one.

I put up a request for donations on my facebook page! Told everyone they can just pay pal me their donations for my cat cause! LOL

Now I have been looking into a fuel sending unit. Man those are expensive too! 500 bucks for on style. I am hoping I can use the 160 dollar style! LOL Maybe I can just use a stick? I think I can swing one of those either way, better then I can swing a cat right now!! LOL

Talked to hubby today and he is planning on just cutting the cat out for now and running just a straight pipe. We will just save the money up with in the next 2 years and buy the right cat then!

That should help get the light to go off, right? It would give it a lot better flow! LOL

Unless the law has changed in last years you don't need CA cat for the truck that was originally sold in other state.
You will have to pass smog test on it, but per OTHER STATE limits.
Looking at the "new" cat it has signs of high temperatures on it. Get infra-red thermometer and check it right after freeway driving.
