My First FORD
I was looking at joining a ford enthusiast's forum, for wisdom, guidance & knowledge. I luckily stumbled upon this site. Reading some post's, you lot seem like a great bunch.
I will soon own my "first" Classic truck! (I'm sure there will be more). As well, my first FORD. So I was hoping to find some guidance from anyone willing to help a newbie out!
Looking at a beautiful turn key 1966 F100 long box. 4 on the floor. I believe it has a 352, but I could definitely be mistaken. & the origin of the truck is Texas. I will be going up again to see it in closer detail and take some photo's as well as drive it (weather pending). Just curious what to look for specifically or ask the owner when I see it next/before I buy?
Any advice you lot can share before getting way too excited?
I apologize for my lack of knowledge and terminology.
Here to learn!

Welcome to the site. As you mentioned you were unfamiliar with terminology, I'll just define some of the terms
mentioned above...These trucks are known for rust in the following areas:
"Core Support"-this is what the Radiator attaches too...if you open the hood and look down behind the headlights,
if you see rust holes, that's not good, it's very common.
"Cab Mounts"-Look under the front fender towards the cab, you'll see a triangular
shaped part attached to the cab that bolts to the frame...these commonly rusted out.
"Floor Panels"-pretty obvious, just crawl under and look at the areas of the floor for rust, as long as it's around
where your feet would sit, it's not a big deal, but if it's along the area where the doors go, this is a trickier repair.
"Drip Rails"- or rain gutters are the areas above the windshield...these had a caulking type of material originally
that flaked away leaving the seams vulnerable to moisture and then rust and if it's a lot. it'll usually be severe.
Hood-Check the hood at the front from the inside...these areas are very commonly rusted out and usually show
from the outside. The hood hinges may also be worn out, you'll know 'cause the hood won't open or close smoothly
or sit flush.
One other area to look is underneath the truck, below the cab, there is a cross-member
that collects a lot of dirt internally and can rust badly.
All of the above mentioned can be repaired, depending on your mechanical prowess or funds available for parts
and so forth...but if a lot of these areas look bad, you may wanna keep lookin'!
Hope this helps you out....Good luck!
Jason
I thank you for taking the time to reply to my message. You have & will provide a lot of help and guidance for a younger guy like myself just getting into it.
Thanks Jason for going in depth with your reply.
Appreciated-

Will keep you posted on how my next visit goes and hope to get photos uploaded.
If anyone else has anything else that has been unmentioned. Good or bad, I would like to hear it. Thanks*
