Its not fuel injected...No, the little metal with the timing marks is definitely broken off, sadly. Not sure I wanna try and replace it-I think it could be but, could be a huge pain.
It's not freaking Chevy, man.
The timing marks are on the damper, you read off the edge, or end, of the 'pointer'.
The manual shows the timing template with a bunch of vvvvvvvvv indentations, I've seen them before, but its been a long time since I've timed a vehicle...
Mine definitely don't appear that way, must have been busted off in the past, all I have is the upper end of it..
You probably need to take a piece of sandpaper to the balancer to clean it up so you can see the scale, if thats the problem. Can you see the scale on the balancer?
I see, thank you for that picture, yes-that's what I see. But, using #1 cylinder, I get blinking light but the harm. balancer groove is nowhere to be seen...Using #4 cyl, I get about 8 degrees BTDC but that means nothing because apptly I have a spun HB...Oh well.
The "groove" in the balancer is not what you time by, you have to use little marks on the skinny side of the balancer. The only way to use the "groove" is to use a magnetic pickup timing set, which I have not seen one of those in years. It would go in the small hole in the other end of the pointer bracket.
The correct Ford part number for the 11:00 timing pointer is F1TZ-6023-A
Since his damper is ready to come apart anyhow, the kit #M-6316-K351 contains both the E8TZ-B damper and F1TZ-A pointer.
Obsolete, but not out of stock. Both these numbers should come up on PartsGuyED's website.
He may be down, but he's not out. I appreciate the generous discount he offers FTE members.
I thought the groove was what you used. No? So what I needsa do is find these timing marks as in the picture on the balancer and THEN determine if the thing has slipped.
Let's START there. Sorry. I thought sure it was the groove you used and then from my one time long ago experience with a chevy 350, I believe the timing template did look like VVVVVVV. Anyway, I'll post back.
