"69" 429

I have a line on a 1969 429. I emailed the seller trying to get the engine code and got this response.

"Ya np separating the two, C9VE-B and the head C9VE-A. Been having trouble getting a straight answer on the motor type, CJ or standard, I am going to pull intake and pan to get number off the crank and there should be a CJ stamp in valley if its a CJ I think. I was going to do this today.

Engine ran fine when I pulled it, only issue was off idle hesitation, which would be a little carb adjustment and timing. Tanny shifted good also."

He bought it in a 63 F100 and was told it was out of a 69 Lincoln but that's 2nd hand info.

I'm looking to put it in my 78 F150 Ranger XLT short box and would appriciate some help on value and specs. I'm running a 400M at this time and would like to add more power.

Thanks in advance,

429 cobra jet's were 70 & 71 with a D0OE-R engineering # cast into them. Part # 6090.

Ask him if it has a spread bore intake manifold.

Definitely not a CJ with those part #s. If it's from a '69 Lincoln, would it be a 429 or 460? The '69 T-Birds had 429's, not sure about the Lincolns.

Off topic question - is your '78 F150 short box 2WD or 4WD? The reason I ask is I had a '78 F100 Ranger XLT short box 2WD, 400, C6, heavy springs, most of the options available. The only reason for it being an F100 instead of a 150 that I could come up with was it was 2WD. Had it been 4WD or a long box, it would have been an F150 by the info I found.

The 1969 429 was not available in the Lincoln, only the 460. So there are lies flying around. The 1969 429 was available in two versions 2 and 4 barrel. The 2V had a 10.5 to 1 compression at 320 hp @4400 and 460 ft.lbs @ 2200. The 4V was 11 to 1 with 360 hp @ 4600 and 480 ft/lbs @ 2800.
