Did the same on my F1. Aerostar cable thingy, tire in the stock location, and the shaft comes out right above the rear bumper. I'm using a full size spare, or rather, and full diameter spare mounted on a matching wheel.
I wish that would work on my truck. My bed is too low to slide under and lower the spare tire that way. In a ditch or on the side of the road it will be too low to reach. That's a shame because that is my favorite way to mount a spare tire. Yours looks good.
I spent about 2 hours at the Pull-A Part yard looking for the right bolt pattern on a donut spare. I found a lot of new ones with the wrong pattern. I finally saw one that was a 16 inch with the right pattern. It is the same height as the 15 inch tires on my truck. I made a mount behind the drivers seat and it works great.
My donut is a 16'' and i have 15'' rims. First off it was free and i was thinking it would work out better with the disk brakes. I have a flip down tag with a hidden hitch and the hole for the spare tire crank thing worked out right above the hitch.
I've wrestled this in my head. if I go with the 22 gal mustang tank between the rails behind the axle, where to put the spare? not a fan of the on the bed side with the dimpled fender... I wouldnt mind a space saver, but at what-a 32" tread diameter? sure seems like it would be a pizza cutter!
