my 96 explorer has a broken back latch, the handle was too tight to turn so i decided to open up the trusty haynes manual nd rip it apart. i got it all apart and got the hatch to open both glass and door, it seems to have some broken parts along with the handle, the latch releases that pull when you turn the handle broke and it seems that its kind of a system that also works with the lock and the latch release is broken causing the door lock to kind of jingle around when its pressed to lock/unlock, upon finding this and openin the hatch after god knows how long, the door ajar light and beep goes on and off so im guessing its the hatch, looking at it at night finding the overhead light comes along with these symptoms and now my battery died for the 3rd time. Is there a sensor that i can take off to stop this for the time being before i can fix it completely, or what do you guys think? this is really annoying now. and also where can i find the parts to replace all that stuff on the inside of the door along with the handle.
You can probably find your parts from Rockauto.com...
Here is a post with a couple of pictures where I replaced my actuator and door ajar switch. The lower picture shows the switch (broken) with the connector. You can probably just unplug this connector from the switch and it will think the door is always closed until you can get everything fixed.
Found the problem, my drivers side window came out of the left side bracket then when rolling it down it tilted nd snapped the door sensor in half. Thanks for the pictures!
