I think you first need 25 posts (not sure)

Use a hosting site to upload your photos (like Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket)
Copy the "direct URL" from that site
Insert it between the IMG codes exactly like this [IMG]your direct url here[/IMG]

I think to upload your own file, you need to be a paying sponsor.

I think using the FTE photo uploader requires that you be in one of the two paid subscription classes. Or at the very least, some of the forum functions such as that are unavailable until you have 25 posts.

The other way is to use a photo hosting site like photobucket or flickr (or one of many other available sites) and link to the photo using regular bulletin board image tags. It's just as easy once you're set up for it, and it's the way many of us add photos regardless of other options.

Joe

edit: Marauder types faster than I do.

unless you are a paid supporter, you cannot upload pictures directly into message posts as attachments. this is an FTE configured limitation.

so, you will have to upload the picture to some internet service, photobucket, flikr, your FTE gallery or profile garage... and then link to it from there.

the FTE advanced edit page as an icon that looks like a mountain.. this is for inserting image links into your message posts..

this is unfortunate, but they also have an entire topic area in the general section about uploading pictures.
