i know

I know this is the wrong forum and all but hope someone has an idea. My 16 year old sons 86 camaro (restored with new crate 5.0L) when he started it to drive home tonight it wouldnt idle on its own. he was able to keep the gas on a little to get it in gear and all and it drives fine at speed. Im thinking air issue. Cant look tonight because no light.

Anyone have an idea what to look for?

Considering its that old im trying to remember if its early fuel injected,or carb,d.If carb,d ...look at the EGR valve.Having been a GM fan back in that day, these EGR,s were notoriuos about carboning up,and creating a vacuum leak.
If its EFI...I would look into throttle body crud,or perhaps idle air valve.

I have an escort that had a vacuum leak, it would die at stoplights, and when it would idle, it was shakey. Once you got it up to speed it would run fine.

Its the tuned port injection. It has just been so long since I worked on something this old its hard to remember everything. Gonna take a look and see what I can figure out.

I agree with 2002 Sport, it sounds like a vacuum leak. Hopefully it's just a hose that came loose.

That darned escort had a rubber elbow underneath the back of the engine that was rotted off. Took me a lot of time on google to find out what was wrong with it. Cost about $2 and 3 minutes to fix once I found it.
