Yeah, I was looking to buy an 86 F-250 reg cab 4x4 a while back & the guy told me it was a 7.3 diesel under the hood. I didn't think they made them that early, so I left it alone.....
does the front end of that truck look newer than 86?
Yes he said the front clip was newer.
Thats possible but i saw a interior picture and its the same as a 87-91 not a 86.
I think this things been pieced together and whatever papers handy were used.
I bet its got 3 diffrent serial numbers.
well its more likely a typo with the newer bed too for the cost of the 7.3 bed clip and time to do all that its easier to just buy a newer truck
also with the newer dash 88 style the 7.3 was available
so id bet its a typo or he dont know the real year look at the title
but the doors match 91 and down so its not an obs bodystyle
that truck is a 92 or newer by the body style. that is a 92-97 front end. and everything else seems to match it. with no interior pics i can't say anything to the interior but outside wise its 92 or newer. im with the other guys its probably a typo on the guys ad. id go look at it and carefully and quietly check the VIN in the door to the one on the dash and see if they match.

Note my post #6 ,I saw interior pictures.
Interior is of a 87-91 style.
It isnt a typo he says it a fixed up 86, I say its a fixed up 87-91 with 86 papers....................................
yea i imagine its a mess far as paperwork goes.... most people don't know where all the VIN numbers are and how to change them and making them look original..... good lookin truck though. however i wouldn't want a 92-97 body and a 87-91 interior.
we had the same issue this past weekend we went and looked at that truck the guy had listed as a 98 F250 HD w 460/auto. well then when we got there we as everyone had predicted discovered the truck was a 97 and the paperwork he had said 99 not 98 but 99..... OBS was not made in 99 WTF was he thinkin
87 came with a 6.9l and a 4spd, not the zf. if the motor and tranny hasnt been swapped then its a 88-91. front end means nothing, ive got a 92 on my 90. now, if the truck is an 87 and the front clip, motor and tranny were swapped thats totally possible. the thing thats screwing him up is, on the pink slip, it will say "first year sold 0/0/86" because truck model years are always a year advanced over the year sold. like you can get a 2012 car or truck in the next couple months.
plus, its a 87-97 bed. but look at the x cab window. that will show you exactly what year bracket it is. nobody is gonna take the time to upgrade that...... 87-91 no doubt
The ZF5 came out in 1987 behind the 6.9 as an option. Base was still the 4 speed.
1988 first year 7.3, first year ZF5 as base model transmission. 4 speed eliminated behind diesels, remained as an option up untill 1992 for the gas trucks.
