Fasteners

Im finally going to get my 460 finshed after about a year of saving up. Im kinda on a budget so i was thinking about saving some money on fasteners. I know its a stupid question but i remember my teacher saying something about corrosion from different metals being in contact so i might as well look like an idiot and ask it.

Will using gold zinc plated grade-8 fasteners like the ones sold at tractor supply do any damages long term, like corrosion near the bolt holes?

Its going to be an all iron motor with the exeption of an aluminum intake manifold.

Thanks guys

P.S. Just so there aint no confusion. Main, rod, and head bolts are going to be by Arp

Zinc dichromate fasteners will be fine.
The zinc is anodic, but the chrome forms a clear oxide that is protective.

Personally, I bought an inexpensive set of stainless fasteners for my engine from an Ebay seller.
For around $30 I had a neatly bagged kit with everything I needed for the front dress, tin, intake & exhaust manifolds.
The only thing that didn't work was that the carburetor studs were too short for use with my EGR plate.

Im gonna guess your teacher was talking bout galvanized fittings in contact with copper. Add liquid and you will have corrosion issues. Like Ardworkin suggested.. go with stainless fastners and you should have no problems. General rule of thumb with the aluminum though... use anti-sieze.

General rule of thumb, Stainless will always gall.

I like nickle based Locktite N-5000 or Permatex 77124.
Don't use a copper based anti-seize with stainless steel.
