i know its over played here....

i have an 81 f100, im going to be parting it out soon. but it has the instrument cluster with the trip and tach, my current truck doesnt.

ive read some threads that say change over the harness to the 18 plug or whatever and add a few wires. is it really that easy?

does anyone have photos of this or anyhting? is this cluster even possible to put in my other truck? sorry, to play this question again!!!

It was explained to me that you don't have to change anything it should be all plug and play as long as you have the same color circuit board on the back of the new one as what your old one has.

Then I believe you need to get a circuit board that is the same color. They changed over somewhere between the years. Someone else might be able to give you a little more info on it.

Its all about maximizing shift points and rpm for economy. Not for the actual aspect of when do I shift but rather when to do so for the best fuel economy.

You ever drag race? There's a lot more to it than blindly watching the tachometer, and if you know your own timing, the light can help you prefer for that upshift.

Also, helpful when roadracing, so you again can pay more attention to the road and footwork than watching the tach.

If your current truck has gauges instead of idiot lights (OIL, ALT,etc..), then all you need to do is swap the cluster. That's it. Done.

Exactly, for racing they are great, they serve no purpose on a street vehicle, especially when mated to the ever popular 10k tach...

It just sounded like an overreaching comment, the kind I love to nitpick.

I wish I'd read this forum before I bought the tach for my truck. I have an 8k RPM tach for my truck that rarely sees the top side of 4k.

It's not super godawful tacky, but I do find myself browsing ebay from time-to-time. Would be nice to have a trip odo too...

search button will do wonders for you clif. you will never get it unless you start doing some research and reading on your own. You will be amazed at the info you can find using search.

If you don't care about learning then by all means keep wasting everyone else's time. this cluster info has been gone over so many times it is just stupid to start a new thread asking about it. The fact that you know it has been asked before, and you still asked the question, means you don't give a fu(% about anyone but yourself and your laziness.
