After opening and closing my tailgate this morning I can't get the rear window to roll down. I have tried both the key and the switch. I have tried leaning on the tailgate while turning the key to make sure it was closed all the way. Anyone have any other suggestions? It is getting annoying not being able to open that. Any help would be much appreciated.
No, I haven't checked the circuit breakers. From what I was reading on here I had assumed that it had something to do with not being latched correctly. Where are the cicrcuit breakers that I would need to check?
In the dash fuse panel. One is for the dash switch and the other is for the t/g switch.
To determine if it's not latching right, remove the inner access panel and put power & ground to the 2-wire connector behind the middle of the t/g - the one with a Red & a Yellow wire. Reverse polarity if nothing happens. If it still doesn't work, the motor is bad.
Ok, that sounds like a plan, Steve. One stupid question though...how do I put power and ground to it? Touch one of the wires to metal and the other to a battery or something? Thanks.
Is the motor turning but the glass isn't moving? Or does the glass do a bit of a shake and rattle without moving? If so, then you've shattered the three nylon buttons in the window motor transmission (it's a common Ford problem). Go to Autozone and buy the repair kit for the window motor.
There is a switch in the window motor circuit that is located on the tailgate latch. The switch is open when the tailgate is not fully closed, preventing you from closing the window if the tailgate isn't closed. Maybe you have a bad switch.
I just figured it was the rear motor ....so I replaced it.
Hit the toggle switch and nothing happened....so I pulled the toggle switch out of the dash and sprayed it w. some contact cleaner..wiped it clean..put it back, and the window worked.
Mine had that trouble, found I had to almost slam the tailgate for it to work. The plastic bushings on the striker bolts were gone. I replaced them from the HELP products and never had trouble since.
Most auto parts stores sells a product line called HELP. Red packaging with white letters. Stuff ranges from pedal pads, interior light covers, striker bushings for doors and tailgates, vacuum hose stuff. Most of it is decent quality.
This is my second attempt to ans. Hope this works. I typed too many characters then lost the reply.....very frustrating.
I am on my my third bronco so i feel your pain when the window doesnt work. This info is from looking at a wiring print from Chiltons.
Control breakers:
Dash switch is CB-14 (also controls left Power Window)
Key switch is CB-12 (also controls Right Power Window)
If your windows are working this is obviously not the problem.
Inside the Tailgat Panel:
There should be one or two plugs for the elect window.
Yellow wire with a Red trace is the down feed to the motor.
Red with the Yellow trace is the up feed to the motor.
There is a latch safety switch for the window. But by the print it only controls the up feature.
It shows the Red wire with the yellow trace going into the switch and becoming tan with black on the other side of this safety switch. Since you said the window will not go down i doubt that is your problem. If you have someone operate the switches and you use a volt meter or a test light you shoult be able to determine if you are getting power there. If you are geting power there then i would say that the motor is bad or the internal CB to the motor is bad. Chances are if the CB internal to the motor is bad then the motor took it out. Hope this helps
While you are in there....if you have this option being in FLA. fix the lead going to the rear window defroster. They inherantly break at the point of the winow. The wire gets brittle and eventually breaks.
Let me know if this was a help.

Good News!! My first Bronco repair! I used a portable power pack to manually make the window motor kick on. Rolled down fine, adjusted both striker bolts back about 1/8" and now it latches completely everytime no matter how softly I shut it. Thank you all for your help!
