Has anyone sucessfully installed a Nav unit into a truck that did not come with one originally. I am sorry that I didn't go for it at the time that I bought the truck, but would like one now. I'm not interested in a non Ford aftermarket one, but would like to install the real deal. I know that some people like to install a so called custom unit and have seen the stock ones appear on internet auction sites occasionally. I have the CD/Radio with Sync now, and Just wonder if the correct wiring is in place. I would imagine that the video going to the mirror would have to be re routed to the dash and into the Nav.
Hi Nipper. Am I going to look like your Beagle when I get older?
Lexustbs tried installing his own Ford Nav about a month ago. I will find the thread where he tried doing it himself. He got a lot of help from rdenis but eventually abandoned the project and installed a Pioneer aftermarket unit. His original Ford Nav is currently posted on the "for sale" forum site for $1,500. He paid $2,500 for it. Based on what I read, you will need to be able to deal with a fair amount of connections (including steering wheel controls).
There was a pretty long thread about this a few weeks ago. It's doable, but there are lots of gotchas. I know rdenis was the one helping out remotely, and I *think* it was lexustbs doing the install. Find that thread and you should have a wealth of info to help you decide what to do.
