Just purchased a 2011 platinum, 5.0 sticker was 51k, bought it for 43k
got 23k for my 2006 f250 diesel lariat with 85k miles on it. Took the 1k rebate for ford financing and can payoff in 30 days with no penalties.

While I totally agree, lets not forget that profit is what keeps them alive. Having said that, I hate to put one more penny into the dealer's hands than necessary and I will haggle till the cows come home. Well not anymore, I have X-plan now.

IMHO, if one can get a truck for 18% + below MSRP then you got a very good deal. A deal such as this forces the dealer to give up most of his profit and uses the factory incentives as well.

In my area, Ford has extended it's President day sale till the end of the month. They are offering up to 6K in factory incentives plus whatever you can swing on your own.

This is once again proof that trucks and SUV's are Ford's bread and butter.

MSRP on mine was $43,8XX. I paid $34,200 in September of 2010. I could have gotten an additional $1,000 incentive if I had a trade-in and an additional $1,000 if I had used FMC...

I don't haggle

I just do research and know what I'm paying for. Ordered through Costco's Auto Buying Program. 2011 F150 Platinum 4X4 6.5ft Ecoboost with every option available. MSRP was $53,330, Invoice Price $47,818, Edmunds TMV $48,233 (after incentives and rebates), and I paid $47,486 (with DOC fee) and, best of all, I never set foot in a dealership. I called the dealer with with what I wanted, they faxed me the order confirmation, I mailed them a check, they delivered me a truck. I'm sure it can be done cheaper but I doubt it can be done much easier. I don't mind them making some profit either, I prefer their business to thrive and Ford to keep making the trucks I love to drive. Now excuse me while I go record a few more CD's onto the trucks hard drive.

I agree. The dealer must make a fair profit, but I don't know that we are getting the best deal, I'm sure the dealer know though.

Speaking as a former Ford salesman I have no problem with the dealership making a fair profit off the deal. That said do keep in mind that they aren't in business to sell their vehicles for a loss so if the deal isn't good enough then they just won't go there. (note: there are exceptions to this such as when Ford offers bonuses to dealerships for moving x number of a particular model during a set time period, at which point it can become profitable for the dealership to lose money on a few vehicles in order to hit the magic number and make a much bigger profit via the bonus). Basically, we can get pretty close to or even below their cost and they will still be making money after the spiffs and finance revenues are all added up. And, since not every customer walking in off the street is sufficiently knowledgeable to be able to haggle their way down to invoice they will make even more money off of the customers that pay closer to MSRP (and the ones who are willing to pay the extra markups to be the first to own something totally NEW are a whole extra chunk of revenue...).

In general, a fair profit for the dealership and a fair deal for the customer CAN be done IF both sides are willing to negotiate fairly. I'm not asking for the world, just don't try to screw me and we'll get along just fine (and I'll happily send plenty of referrals over too!).

I'm about to Order my 2011 F150, FX4, Crew cab, Ecoboost, max tow, and sunroof.
Build and price on ford website after incentives is $45,307 out the door, i've got them down to $39,200, i think that's a fair deal.

Whenever I buy a vehicle, I print up whole sale and retail of the vehicle I want via NADA ( through work), and Edmunds and KBB. And then trade in value for my trade. This has helped me negotiate with the sales manager with I believe good results. I don't like to haggle, I like to negotiate in a positive way with out being rude. An educated consumer should come with some basic around about idea of vehicle cost and not make unrealistic demands to the salesman. I like the dealer I buy from because they have been fair on trade in and new vehicle cost without much negotiation. That has kept my wife and I coming back. I guess being prepared as best as we can before the sale is all we can do, I just can't help but feel as though I could have gotten a better deal, but that is no disrespect to salesmen and women at the dealer I deal with.

"Mine is on order. MSRP 41,789. My cost 27639"

I would gladly give up an A-Plan price to get this deal - about 10k to the good.

Not sure I understand that post. How is that even possible? Is that including a trade in value or something?

A good deal would be anytime you get the vehicle for at or under invoice price, and then the incentives are applied to that price.
So, what is your opinion of X Plan?

Here's a hypothetical truck, 3.7 Super Cab, Sat Radio, Limited Slip, Tow Pkg, Custom Pkg, Convenience Pkg, XLT Plus Pkg, Rear Camera, Keypad Entry.

MSRP $34,115
XLT Conv & Tow Discout -$750
TOTAL MSRP $33,365

Invoice: $30,910
A Plan: $29,655.06
D Plan: $29,755.06
X Plan: 31,061.42

Current Incentives - $4,500

Net w/ Doc Fees $26,661

The way I see it, the dealer made hold back of $972, $150 over invoice and got a $100 Doc fee. Total for a day and a half's work, driving across town for a dealer trade, a $70 tank of gas, plus running the business is about $1,200.

How much can a dealer cut into that?

FI50~
Everything you laid out makes sense to me and the other MSRP to actual costs posted above. Like you and others, wondering about the 41,789 / 27,639 breakdown. The MSRP for the FX4 I've on order is $43,330, not sure yet what the final line will be once it comes in - pending which incentive plan I opt for, but figure it will be in the 36,'s +tax.

My 2010 FX2 SuperCab had an MSRP of $33,107 and out the door I paid $24,617. That was back in October 2010 when they had 7,500 in rebates and 1000 trade in assistance.

I think that if you can negotiate a better price th an X-plan then you should try. Otherwise, i think X-plan is a pretty solid deal. People aren't giving X-plan enough credit for capping dealer doc fees and eliminating transfer fees if any are incurred. My dealer charges $549 for their doc fees. I pay $100.00. I'm already $449.00 to the good.
