i have an 88 F-150 4x4 5.8 And I need to replace the oil pan cause the stock oil plug got stripped out got the next size bigger plug. But I know it won't last through to many oil changes. My question is can the oil pan be changed without pulling or raising the motor ? Also what else should be done when I get it off she has got 93K miles on her
P.s. what would you think it would cost to have someone that I trust do it ?
Depending on how big the hole has gotten, you might be able to buy a drain kit. I think the "help" section at the local parts store or B&M and Mr. Gasket make a drain kit too. I bought the Mr. Gasket kit from a local speed shop to create a drain for the tranny pan.
As for your question on jacking up the motor to remove the pan, I'm not sure. Sorry. Hopefully the above info can make for an easier and less expensive alternative.
Replacing the oil pan sucks. I am going to have to soon becuase I have a small leak that annoys me. You will deffinatly have to jack it up after taking off the upper intake. But that is just to put in a new gasket. On our four-by-fours you cannot just take off the oil pan. You may be able to slide it out somehow after jacking it up but I would not count on it. I'm sure someone on here can tell you everything you need to know but this is a start. I pretty sure it cost around $600 to have it fixed for you. G O O D L U C K ! I hope everything goes ok.
Just did it, on a 1993, F150, 4x4, auto/5.8 It would be a lot easier if you pull the motor. You have to remove the upper intake, trans cross member, drop the exhaust, un-bolt the engine mounts. Jack the body up to strech the springs, while jacking the transfer case, tranmission, and the motor up as high as you can get them. The oil pump and pick have to be unbolted and dropped in the pan, before you can get the pan off and that was the easy part you still have to get it all back to together. Next time I'll pull the motor!! If your stll interested I'll send you some tips that I learned the hard way.
