I made my own harness using the 4 wire flat trailer wire. Use one for a keyed hot,one for always hot for the memory, and one for the ground.

Then run your speaker wire to your doors or behind the seat.

Here's the general breakdown...

Constant 12V+ Light Green
Switched 12V+ Yellow/Black
Illumination Blue/Brown
Front Speakers 5 1/4" Doors
Left Front (+) Green
Left Front (-) Black/White
Right Front (+) White/Red
Right Front (-) Black/White

You'll need to add a ground wire....the factory setup grounds through the chasis, but this should get you going...

Yes, ri_tuck_guy is generally correct.

Specifically:

Light green/yellow stripe = constant 12V for clocks & memories & whatnot
Light blue/red stripe = dimmable dash backlighting
Yellow/black hash = switched & fused power supply

I've done this I don't know how many times by now.

It's generally faster to just re-type it than to go find it and post a link.

I know this is an old post, but does anyone know if there was an install bracket kit found? I installed a cd player in my 86' and I have no idea how to get it to mount up. It would be nice if there is an install bracket for cd players. Thanks for any help.

Autozone sells the cheap plastic ones that break when you hit a bump. I got lucky and found one in a junk yard that was made of metal, which I imagine is a factory DIN mount.

What is DIN? I am unfamiliar with that term. Are the autozone brackets not worth getting?

They break easily, but my last one has lasted a while.

DIN is the term for the size of a standard in dash cd player (rectangular)

Double DIN is the size of most newer factory radios (huge almost square face)

Dont buy the plastic... waste of cash.

What I did was take the original radio out of the factory casing (one piece radio & case) but I used the bottom I_I (< pic) style and mounted my new radio in that, then just went back with the front cover and new trim plate.
Bit of sweat but worth it.

Great wiring diagram wonder where I've seen it before

When I bought the truck in February it didn't have the stock radio, or any radio for that matter. Guess I will make up something.

Rock on
