AT about 45-50 mph or going up hill, the engine sputters and lurches as if it is not getting enough fuel. At first I thought this lean condition was caused by a clogged fuel filter or bad gas, but after changing the filter, cleaning the injectors, and filling up with new gas, nothing has worked. I suspect it may be caused by a fouled Mass Airflow sensor. Any idea if I may be on the right track?

This is the V6 engine.

You do not have a Mass Airflow Sensor. Your truck uses Speed Density fuel injection. How old are the plugs/wires/cap and rotor?

Before throwing anymore money at it warm up the engine and transmission then check for codes: Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test or purchase a code reader.

yeah I agree with him on the code reader and a damn good ones surprisingly cheap too Equus 3145. cause theres a multitude of things that could potentially cause that my 90s doing it because of a combination of Ignition and EGR valve problems. but in your case it could also be like my 87 did where it progressively went slower and slower till it wouldn't even move and would barely run which turned out to be a trashed catalytic converter. the code puller will help tremendously. it also informed me my O2 and Knock sensors are defective on my 1990 ext cab so had I just thrown parts at it I'da spent alot of money in one area say for example EGR and still had the problem anyway Hope this helps and if you need anymore help feel free to PM me.
