04 Escape
I must say, I just bought this from a carlot and at first I thought I may have made a mistake, Before I got it home, the check engine light came on and it started missing. Then the was a knock underneath. all though, Im experienced with Fords, I will look at it when I get back home.
Had the codes read and was a #6 miss fire, Bought all new plugs and said I would change them. Did the front three and looking around, I noticed where there 3 in the back, underneath the intake? so came in here and look it up on this site and sure enough, they were under the intake and it had to be removed. When I found that the #6 was a front plug, I said to myself "whew I was saved".I cleaned and swapped the #6 cop with the #4 cop and had the codes reset. The miss is gone and the code has not returned so now it is running lke a champ.
I crawled underneath looking around and just as I expected the knock was a bad sway bar end link. I went to O'rielys and got one ( MOOG BRAND ) I buy the best the first time. Anyway, I go home pull the old and install the new and I notice that the MOOG part is twice the size of the original part. I check the other and although not loose the boots are torn so its a matter of time and with the driverside so much stronger, its gonna put more stress on the passenger side so I get that one and replace it as well.
Now this thing is built better than I had actually thought it was, I really thought these Escapes have gotten a bad rap. With the bigger end links, it does not roll like it did with the original end links and as I look at the wheels and the way some of its built, This SUV is not as flemsy as I thought they were. Its alot like a mini-expedition (lol).
Anyway, no question here just thought I would share my experience.
