bunch of problems
i pulled the motor out of my 1996 f150 5.8l 351w
so i out it all together try to start and its not firing so i thought the distributor was 180 degrees the wrong way so i go to change it and keep cranking then alll the sudden it seems i have to power to my starter. the relay is not clicking and if i jump the terminals theres no power to starter.
heres my concerns
when the key is off and i jump the terminals my fuel pump is the only thing that turns on. my buddies exact trunk turn over with key off and no fuel pump turns on.
have brand new cables, optima battery, and solonoid.
ok so i pulled the motor and replaced all the gaskets, timing gear and chain, oil pump and a few other minor things. the motor ran perfect before it just leaked a lot of oil.
so i dropped the motor back in and hooked everything up, thought i found tdc on cylinder 1, put the distributor in but after tuning the motor over it doesnt want to fire. it tries to fire but it seems as though the timing was 180 degrees the wrong way. so i pull the distributor out rotate it 180 degrees and it still wont fire. couple more times of cranking and the it wont even turn over as though if theres no power to my starter. other relays click when i try and start the truck but not the starter solonoid.
i wired everything how it was before and its wierd because with the key off and if i try and jump the solonoid on the firewall the fuel pump just turns on then off. my friend has the same truck and it doesnt do that. even with the key on it doesnt turn the motor over if i jump the terminals.
does anyone have any suggestions? i have new cables, battery optima, starter solonoid.
also i turned my lights on and when i go to turn the motor over they dont dim at all and my battery voltage doesnt drop one bit.
checked for blown fuses also and theres no blown fuses
Sounds like you may have ran it to the frame (WRONG) and not the engine.
Now you have burned open the body ground wire and or the engine brad ground strap to the body.
heres my other problems
my exhaust is shortend and is only supported in one location which was on the frame well i cut that and i noticed if my exhaust isnt grounded to the frame the fuel pump turn on or run.
i dunno but sounds like i have an electrical prob
heres my next problem
when my motor is cold it will idle really low, stumple and stall if i dont give it gas. its not real bad but it will be idling at 600 rpm then drop to 5 or 400 then die. when its warmed up it runs perfect except it does idle a bit high. my truck didnt do this before i pulled the motor so what do you think?
