got a buddy with a problem

he's got a 95 and said when he go's to give it throttle it will set the CEL and just drop to an idle or die restart and may or may not drive some and then do it agian.
told him i'd ask the expert's

told him to start with cleaning the throttle switch's and blowing them out found that in past post

don't know if it will make it that far.he's out in the country.i'll see if another buddy with a scanner will go out there.i was thinking i seen something on a post like this but looked back 20 pages and could'nt find anything.i'm thinking pedal

Throttle position sensors do not usually make one die on powerstrokes. Idle is controlled by the PCM, not the gas pedal. They can cause the other symptoms though. I would scan for codes before I did anything else.

ok got it fixed 2 weeks ago.it was the IPR fixed that and it ran fine till yesterday.he called and said it shut off on him like it run out of fuel.he let it sit all day and it fired up and run for about 30 sec and died agian.i went there and tryed to start it and it would smoke but not start.checked oil in HPOP and fuel both were fine.while cranking tach would move.unpluged GP's and hit it with a lite shot of the bad stuff and it would fire up and run with me shooting it just to keep it running.going to bring it over tomorrow and i'll try my IDM on it and see if it will run.what do you guys think?

sounds just like the fuel bowl heater shorted out, check the #...22? fuse under the hood, 30 amp maxi i believe

i just reread the post and saw that it was smoking while cranking..that wouldnt be the fuse any way! sounds like its not building enough pressure to fire the injectors. might be back to square one with the ipr

How about posting some data.. IPR DC% & ICP at no start ...

just had a thought.when i changed the IPR the locking clips that hold the wires on broke off.if it came unpluged would it start and run funny or just not start?
action not that good with the gauge i got.have'nt figured it out yet.i guess thats what your taking about?

if the wires came out of the IPR it wont start, atleast im pretty sure it wont.. wouldnt be able to command oil pressure.

Definitely check the wiring , if loose it won't start ...But , you say its is smoking , that means the IPR is working . Maybe the tin nut fell off ?...

it came unpluged i guess it was close the first time i tryed it and them came out.just got it going and am going to see about getting a new pigtail for it.
