So, I decide to pull my egr on my '04 and clean it today. I fabricate a little tool of sorts to pull it out and i start to give it some persuasive love taps to get it out. The base of it moved up about a 1/16" and the whole dang top popped off leaving the lower part still inside. After finding the piece that went flying, when i put this thing back together....WILL IT WORK?! Thnaks a bunch, Jeremiah
So i have obviously circumvented the pressing together part of the egr lol. If i can press it back together, even if its not functioning properly, will it hurt to drive it?
The non-functioning EGR will not hurt the engine. It may give you a code but it is just for low flow throught he EGR. When the truck is off, un-plug the eletronic connection and the EGR will not cycle and will be failed closed. It may hurt your MPG slightly but won't hurt the engine until you can get it replaced.
SO, after a few hours of talking very sweetly and using some coercing love taps, the other half decided to cooperate and pop out. Got it all cleaned up, put the guts back in it and used a brass drift and ballpeen to tap the two halfs back together. Turned into quite the job i must say! Thanks a bunch for the info you guys, i really appreciate having access to all of your knowledge when i really need it!!!!!!! Jeremiah Fort
