Electric Wood Splitters
Anyone have one of these? I'm looking in the $300 to $500 range. In the past I've borrowed my neighbor's, but it's time to just get my own.
Any of you guys have one? I only split about a cord per year and I like the easy storage of these smaller machines.
I have had it for two winters now and am pretty happy with it. They claim it will split up to 10" diameters and 24" length. Can't exceed the length but I have far exceeded to diameter. If you know how to split wood with a wedge and have the right wood, 16" or larger diameter can easily be split.
I buy most of my wood from a local place but most of the pieces are too big for the wood stove we have. The splitter works great to split those pieces down as well as to make kindling.
The best part is my wife can use it......
Forgot to mention that due to the limited power of this unit, it doesn't like splitting forked wood. I've jammed it up a couple times doing that.
Yeah, my neighbor's might have been like a 4-ton model and worked pretty good. It only got snubbed by some damp oak that was huge in diameter.
Harbor freight has this one in stock. I like the bigger wheels and the lift handles. This should make moving it around the yard easier.
7 Ton Log Splitter
I was splitting a 8" green hickory log and the splitter couldn't split it due to a knot in the log. I turned off the splitter and grabbed the end of the log to see how stuck it was on the wedge. The log came of the wedge releasing 4 tons of pressure and my hand was between the log and the ram. Really messed up my index finger. Thought I would come back from the hospital with only 9 fingers, two surgeries pins plates and screws the DR. put it all back together. Can barely bend my finger so it's kinda just for show now.
Bottom line if your using a electric splitter and a log gets stuck on the wedge never put your hand between the log and the ram.
I printed it out and carried it down there with me. The Harbor Freight people at the head quarters aren't open for business on weekends. I called ahead to Worcester and they had plenty of them in stock. I just wanted to get this out of the way.
If your Danvers store is anything like this store in Worcester, you could spend hours walking the place. I found stuff I could use in every secton of the store.
I highly recommend anyone to check out these online coupons. When making a sizable purchase the savings can be worth the trouble.

To me, the hand splitter would seem faster as usually I can split my logs in one swing. It is damn tiring though and my back starts to ache even after a few logs. But at least I have no trouble storing the maul in a corner of my garage.
