Light on 4x4 switch?

What year is your truck? My '02 has back lighting for the switch, but sounds like the older ones may not.

My 02 has a back light. It also burnt out. I took the bulb out and went to the dealer figuring they were like dash lights and could buy one. Nope can only get it by buying a new switch which they quoted me at $50 which was cheaper than I expected.

Take a look at these posts/articles. You can in fact replace the bulb in it for around $4.00.

I am guessing not, they make subtle changes every year and that was probably one of them. Just pull your switch out (they just pop out of the dash) and see if it looks like the one in the article.

To answer one of the replies to my post:
I have a 2003 7.3L
I am specifically addressing the 4x4 auto switch / dial and not the 4x4 light on the dash cluster.
It seems logical there this dial switch should have a light. If so please let me know and how would I replace?

I have an '02 and can't ever recall that switch being lit up??? Any idea what wire on the harness plug would be the light wire? I'd like to test it and see if there is in fact a light there......

My 02 4x4 switch didn't light up for a long time, for some reason about two months or so ago it lit up and has worked every since. Weird what the cold does to electrical. But I never mind a problem that fixes itself.
