Bleeder Screw Question

Replacing my left rear brake caliper I noticed the bleeder screw isn't at the top as in other vehicles I've worked on. Is this some Ford design or did someone screw up replacing calipers previously? That someone would be me. I've never had that firm pedal feel after bleeding. I'm thinking this is the reason.

I have never seen a caliper where the bleeder screw is not on top so maybe someone replaced it with something that wasn't right

Someone most likely put the right caliper on the left. You can't get it properly bled without the bleeder screw on top. You can get close if you use a pressure bleeder but it will be best to replace it or swap it in case the right side has the left caliper on it.

Should be near the top pointing straight to the back. It is the front ones that point up.

The soft pedal feel could be air in the system, or stuck slide pins or soft lines that are flexing and not keeping pressure.

Funny thing is the right caliber screw is at the top. Even if I swapped sides it would be on bottom. This is a reman from advanced auto. The caliber is also on the front of the rotor on this side but on the rear on the passenger side. Got me stomped.

Best I can describe w/o a pic available. I swiped these pics from the article section. As you can see the caliper is mounted on the "rear" of the rotor on the driver's side of this Super Duty. On mine it's mounted on the front of the rotor. Was there something different abt the 2000 Excursion? I know many of you have done brakes. Where is the caliper mounted on the driver side rear?

Ok, with a little more research here I found a TSB for it.

2000 FORD EXCURSION TSB's (technical service bulletins)

Now how do I go about accomplishing this?

That's news to me Ex40. There's no way to switch the caliper bracket on the other side?

Dad's F350 has a rear caliper forward and one backward. Not sure why they did it that way in 99 but some vehicles might have one forward and one backward. Not sure if it goes with the Excursions but it might. Just a thought. At that point, someone screwed it up.
