Leaf Spring Center Pin

I've got a 2006 F-350.People that have been behind me when I'm driving have comented on how my truck goes down the road at an angle.Yesterday with the good weather we had,I decided to check it out.Looks like the rear leaf spring center bolt on the pass. side is broke.I'd like to have a new bolt in hand when I lay the truck up for repairs.I checked with the local Ford dealer and I was informed the bolt is not available from Ford. You have to buy the entire spring.Yeah right!! Anybody here know the diameter of the spring center pin? I know the length is not a problem because they make them longer than needed and you cut them after installed.I'll go to a local spring shop and get one before I start the job,but I know they'll want to know what size. Thanks for any and all info.

If you go to the spring shop they will measure it for you. Otherwise, just measure the thickness of the spring pack and give them that. I picked up a new center pin from a spring shop and that's all they did.

Yup,the length won't be a problem measuring.I need the diameter. The diameter of the bolt can't really be determined until the spring is apart.Right now,it's my only ride.Thats why I'd have to have the pin before I take it apart.

OK. My spring shop didn't ask me. They seemed to know already. They're a pretty common truck. Have you asked the spring shop? They might know. In the past I have also use a grade 8 bolt as a temporary pin until I could make it to the spring shop. (I've had a few old vehicles and have rebuilt a few spring packs)

Spring Center Pin Update

Well,up until yesterday,I thought I had a broken leaf spring center bolt on my 2006 F-350.My 57 year old eyes missed the real problem at first glance.Seems my main leaf is broken and wedged up under the plate the u-bolts go through.Undecided right now whether to change the whole leaf spring or just the main leaf.Might go with just the main leaf because the other leaves look fine.Any one else here have a spring failure on an F-250 or 350? I see a lot of 250's on the road that sag real bad in the rear.Even with no load.Any comments on this topic?? Thanks for any and all info.

Me personally when a leaf breaks I replace the whole pack both sides. I'm carrying weight all the time. When they start to break it's usually after 90K miles so a fresh pack doesn't hurt.

As I said in your other thread, I have rebuilt spring packs to replace broken leafs. It's not difficult and you can often find used spring packs for cheap. That being said, replacing the main leaf is more work than one of the other leaves.

Check craigslist. I regularly see spring packs on there from guys who've lifted their trucks.

i would take both spring packs to your local spring shop and them them install two new main leafs. if the one broke the other probally isnt too far behind. On another note how many miles and how much weight you tow?

Had a garage do that(replace a broken leaf), truck never sat level in the back and that side sagged a little more under load. That's why I prefer to just change both packs now. What I save in labor seeing that I'm doing myself makes up for the cost of the new packs.
