Fluctuating engine temp

I have a 94 Exploder, and I just replaced the water pump on it, flushed the coolant, and put a new 195 degree thermostat in it for good measure. Before, the temp was holding steady at about the N or the O (same as in the 93 F-250 diesel I used to have). Now, the temp goes up to N/O and then goes back down about halfway to the vertical line at the bottom of the arc, and it just fluctuates up and down like that. I'm wondering if the NAPA thermostat has got something wrong with it.

It's possible. The fluctuation is the thermostat opening and closing. Mine will do that in the winter since I replaced radiator with aluminum one and it actually cools the engine too good. Depends on the range of when the thermostat opens and closes.

Oh yeah, I replaced the radiator too... I wonder if other brand thermostats have a tighter open/close range, or if it just needs something to block some of the air flow through the rad during the winter. I'd try it with the old thermostat, but I already threw it away... oops!
