???'s about PTO
ok so for starters i have a 2005 F-350 crew cab 4x4 srw with 6 speed zf-6 tranny. i know i have pto port on tranny. what i want to know is how to use it. i want to hook up a hydraulic system on the truck with bumper ports and valves. so i can use truck to power a number of things like a stand-by genset, log splitter, winch, ect. i don't know a whole lot about hyd systems. i know your suposed to match needed hp to pressure or something like that. just wondering if i can build a system to power the biggest use , say the genset. then gate it back for smaller stuff. i should add i do not have any of the above mentioned hyd tools, ect. wanting to know i can set up the truck first then get the rest. looking to get a 20KW genset when the time comes. not sure what hyd motor would be needed for that. i will most likely be building the system myself. so any and all advise is welcome. so all you truck guru's please educate me on the whole deal please. thanks!
Is this even possible?
How do i pick the right pto?
How much hyd fluid do i need for system( tank, ect)and where to put it?
Will the truck idle up when pto is used?
What should i expect to pay for all this?
truck can't be driven while using pto right? (just checking)

I did have PTO powering hydraulics for dump bed on old Chevy. Had 1 level to engage the drive for the pump and 2nd level to operate hydraulic valve. Technically could do it while driving.
When I got Superduty, I moved the bed hydraulics to it, but for $200 I bought on ebay whole hydraulic unit with electric motor.
In last decade electric motors went long way and now 3 HP motor weight just few pounds, so complicated PTO is not really necessary.
The same with generators. Why run expensive truck engine, when for $100 you can have small, economical engine just for generator.

pto
I have a f-550 with a pto and It powers a hy-rail to run on the rail road , a crane and a hydraulic tool circut It has various switches and you can have higher or lower gallons per minute , you can change rpm's . I am really cheap and try to work on it myself and I can tell you its a PITA. hydraulics can get really complicated. I think electric is a better way to go .

i understand that electric would be simple. but i never do anything simple. the truck is basicly a 4 door tractor, so i'm going to use it as such.
the goal here is to make it more economical by using the same power plant(the truck) for multiple work. as for the gen-set unit i'm going to build it up myself, that way i can get more power for the same money. as for cost of running the truck compared to a smaller motor. the size gen-set i want would power my whole house AC and all. so a large motor would be needed any way. to cut cost on buying a huge standby gen-set i can just buy the gen head and hook it to the truck. thanks for the replies.
